What We Offer

At The Journey we have a passion for learning and development, and a commitment to bringing out the best in both individuals and organisations.

The values that we work from are respect, appreciation, safety, creativity, contribution and openness. We have a strong belief in using the strengths of each person and aim to build the capacity of each person and organisation. Our flexible, adaptive and collaborative approach can adjust to individual, group and organisational needs, and we are able to partner with other committed people and organisations to achieve the best outcome for you.

We have extensive experience of working with people with disabilities so we understand what it is like to work in an environment of grief, trauma, chaos, competing demands and absurdity. We also understand the nature of and strengths and weaknesses in the process of providing support workers in the brain injury sector – the recruitment, induction, training and support of workers who are largely unskilled and working in isolated settings. Our model of training and support has been developed specifically for one-on-one work with people with brain injury through our own experiences and understanding.

Brain Injury Sessions

The Journey has developed, and regularly delivers, a series of sessions specifically for staff working with people with Brain Injury. The sessions available for delivery to the staff of your organisation are:

  • Introduction to Brain Injury

  • Working with people who have a cognitive impairment

  • Working with people with challenging behaviour

  • Keeping Afloat – Self care and Boundaries

  • Working with Families – A family-sensitive approach

  • Sexuality and Brain Injury

  • Community Participation

The Journey hosts ABI Workers Forums to provide people working in the area of brain injury with an opportunity to get together to share information in an informal way. You or your staff are welcome to attend a forum to further explore and understand brain injury and meet other people working in similar fields.  About ABI Workers Forums

Education and Development

The Journey’s principle facilitators have extensive experience developing and delivering training. They can assist you by:

  • working with you to identify the learning needs and goals for your group
  • developing specific sessions that are tailored to your needs and meet your goals
  • providing skills to develop a wide range of information and educational material for people with disabilities (particularly brain injury), their families and support networks
  • planning and implementing innovative and collaborative forums to promote understanding, skills and knowledge about people with disability and people with brain injury.

Project Work

The Journey can manage, develop and deliver your project using a methodology we have built for the not-for-profit sector. We use a simple but effective project management framework that achieves project outcomes and keeps you informed.

We are able to respond to your needs and those of the people involved with your organisation in a developmental way because we are experienced in planning and implementing organisational development in human services organisations where the primary resource is people. Our aim is to undertake projects that further our vision for a community where each person is valued and included.
