Education and Development

The Journey develops and delivers education programs, training sessions and information that promotes understanding of disability and brain injury. The values that we work from are respect, appreciation, safety, creativity, contribution and openness, and these values live in our work. We use an approach that identifies the strengths of each person involved and builds their capacities.

The Skills and Knowledge We Offer

Learning and development is a passion in our organisation. Our trainers have extensive experience working with people with brain injury and people with complex needs in difficult situations. We have also worked with a wide range of adult learners.
We understand the needs of people who work in an environment of grief, trauma, chaos, competing demands and absurdity and can make the content of our presentations relevant to the areas of work of the participants, particularly with people who have a range of complex needs.
Our expertise enables us to managing group expectations and respond to the specific needs of group as they arise. We use the experience of the group to build learning and encourage reflection, listening and exploration.
The approach we have developed allows us to address learning outcomes while being flexible enough to adapt and adjust our program in order to balance the needs of individual participants with the needs of the learning group and the organisation.

Our Model – the Action Framework for Learning and Development

Through our experiences as trainers we have developed a framework for presenting education and information that is designed to meet the learning needs of participants in a flexible and responsive way. The selection and sequencing of the tasks described below are tailored according to each project.
In brief the tasks of the action framework are:

  • Information gathering: information about the learners and relevant training information is collected and reviewed.
  • Needs analysis: the information collected is analysed according to the level of training required and any gaps are identified.
  • Model development: a unique model is developed that selects a learning combination to promote the most effective training delivery methods for the learners’ situation. A training plan is developed using the optimum combination.
  • Training delivery: the training is delivered according to the training plan using the learning combination selected.
  • Outcome evaluation: the program is rigorously evaluated in terms of outcomes and a revised training plan formulated accordingly.
